This is where the MICHI inspiration began. It started in my childhood with my Mother’s European wardrobe from the late 1960s - 1980s. It wasn’t just my mother’s style that inspired MICHI, it was her strength, confidence, resourcefulness, straight up honest nature and her vivacious personality, which still informs the spirit of our MICHI collections. With her own personal savings, she left Kingston, Jamaica for London, UK at the age of 18 years old to become a Registered Nurse. She lived through a very exciting time of British fashion and Women’s Liberation. She was a regular at the vibrant stores in Chelsea and Soho and had a very stylish wardrobe that represented some of my favourite moments in fashion including mod mini dresses, brightly colored and metallic platform shoes, cut-out bikinis, bohemian printed bell bottom sets, oversize 80s jackets and cut-out thong aerobics bodysuits. I grew up admiring her colorful and loving personality, as well as her impeccable style. She passed away last month and her loving memory will always be cherished. Her legacy lives on in the spirit and purpose of MICHI. @michi_watson
