"As a woman of color in a predominantly white sport, I’ve worked exceptionally hard to be noticed. My journey was initiated by the need to heal both physically and mentally. I was so hard on myself growing up. I strove to be perfect academically, physically, and athletically, I thought I had to be ten times better than my white counterparts. My journey has now manifested into much more giving me strength, power, continued discipline, motivation, and now, a voice. At this stage of my life, the advice that I would give my inner child is to remind myself that I am enough, to love myself unconditionally, be kind and compassionate to myself and others, and lastly, live life for me..It’s gratifying to see more women of color being embraced by the yoga community and garnering support and opportunities from brands like Michi, who use their resources beyond their fiscal demands. It’s about making a difference in the world, while doing what you love, and what loves you back. Love is what brings this community together. .While I’m black, I’m a yogi first, and have seldom been made to feel like an outsider because of my color by other dedicated yogis. The outside world is a much different place to be a black woman and the harsh realities often have been challenging. I hope to be a great example of the power of yoga, inspire, and be a resource for and welcome other women of color into the community. ."A woman in harmony with her spirit is like a river flowing. She goes where she will without pretense and arrives at her destination prepared to be herself and herself only.” ~ Maya Angelou"
