“We found ourselves on yet another beautiful, hot, African day. We were nearing the end of our stay in the C.A.R., and had traveled south to watch a well drilling in Mbaïki. Community members young and old, were piled under small shade trees near the drill site, adjusting their positions as the sun slid across the sky. I remember sitting with them, the quiet anticipation of the crowd enveloping me. I felt them collectively, extended in breath; together in that hopeful moment which I will carry for the rest of my life. It was a kindness we all needed.” -Codey
