A pump that once serviced 200-300 people is now servicing 1000 because of the conflict. The rebels would kill people and throw their bodies in hand-dug wells, which would contaminate them; so they are no longer an option. After talking to the village chief, Francis, about the issues he's experiencing, I was struck with emotion. It confirmed in my heart MudLOVE's decision to focus on water sustainability.
