Ivey is using custom #Hotshots bands to promote fire safety and firefighter support. Each band she sells also provides one week of clean water to someone in the Central African Republic. "I started Hotshots this past August. The inspiration of my program was when friends that I consider family not only lost their home in a fire but two family members. I witnessed the fire. I was at the hospital when my friends were pronounced dead. The two surviving family members moved into my home until they had a new place to live. This past August, I realized most fires are preventable disasters, and no one should experience the emotions my family, friends, and I did two years ago.
Hotshots promotes fire safety and firefighter support. I chose the name Hotshots to honor all Hotshot Firefighters and the memory of the Prescott, AZ Hotshot Crew. I started off just wanting to educate people on preventing fires, but as I have visited more and more fire stations, I have learned their needs are just as significant as the need for fire education.
This past November l polled local firefighters and they said their greatest need was bottled water, especially with the hot summer coming. So, I began a drive to collect water. I also am hosting a 5k to raise money for water, as well as selling t-shirts and MudLOVE bracelets.
Hotshots has grown beyond my wildest imagination; it has received attention at the state, national, and international levels. Wouldn't it be incredible if Hotshots became a National Fire Safety/Firefighter Support Initiative? With organizations like MudLOVE supporting Hotshots and spreading it, the sky is the limit."
