Since childhood, sisters Ailbhe and Izzy Keane (@izzywheels) have been best friends on a mission, creating colorful spoke guards for wheelchairs. They first began collaborating when Izzy, who was born with spina bifida and navigates her daily life in a wheelchair, was getting ready for special occasions. “I wanted my sister’s wheelchair to reflect her bright and bubbly personality,” says Ailbhe. “Having stylish wheels on your chair that match your outfit or show off you interests immediately addresses the chair and opens conversation.” Today, the pair, who live in Dublin, work with artists around the world to create an array of creative spoke guards, with Izzy serving as brand ambassador and Ailbhe overseeing designs. “There is actually a huge community of people who think about their disabilities and their wheelchairs in the same way I do,” says Izzy. “The thing I am most proud of is that we have given wheelchair users across the globe a way to show the world the positive relationship we have with our wheelchairs.” Watch our Instagram story now to see some of Izzy Wheels’ colorful designs. ✨ Photo by @izzywheels
