At the New York City triathlon, capturing a photo this majestic is a race in and of itself. Santiago Mejia (@santimejia_), a photo intern at The New York Times, was up at 4 a.m. to preview the course and secure a good spot at the starting line. “The most special portions were at the beginning and the end of the swim,” he says. “I just wanted them to hurry up before it got any brighter. It was right at sunrise!”
