Brazilian pole vaulter Fabiana Murer (@fabianamurer) is set to return to the Olympics in 2016 and couldn’t be happier to have a chance to claim her first medal. “It’s an opportunity of a lifetime to compete in Rio, especially because I’ll have the Brazilian fans supporting me,” the 35-year-old says. Fabiana competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, but failed to qualify for the 2012 London games. 2016 is all about fighting for the medal she’s dreamed of taking home. “Of course, now the motivation is so much bigger because it’s happening in my country,” she says. #BeyondTheGames is a series that spotlights inspiring women athletes in the Instagram community who are telling their Olympic story.
