Humberto Leon (@humbertotoo) and Carol Lim of Opening Ceremony (@openingceremony) stopped traffic at New York Fashion Week yesterday. Syd Mead, a designer who is perhaps best known for futuristic films like “Blade Runner” and “Tron,” inspired the duo’s collection, which was shown in the midst of Space Age gridlock. “There’s a really realistic side to Syd, and reality is the basis of everything we work on,” says Humberto, explaining that he and Carol have always felt that the greatest accolade for them is seeing someone on the street wearing their clothes. “It was exciting to work on a collection that was grounded in reality but questioning this idea of the future. Are we in the future? Or are we in today?” Photo by @humbertotoo
