On the last day of Beyoncé and Jay Z’s recent world tour, 33-year-old French chef Jean Imbert (@jeanimbert) was invited to cook for the couple. He was the only person allowed in the room with them. “With food, it’s breaking all the rules — you are the chef, so you are respected,” he says. “Jay Z’s staff tells me he respects me because I am the chef. Food is either you trust or you don’t trust. If you trust the chef he can make you eat what he wants.” While Jean flies all over the world to cook for celebrities, from Robert De Niro to the French soccer team, when it comes to his own food, he only trusts his girlfriend or mom. “When you are a chef, there’s no barrier with the people. When you give food to someone, you become very close to them.”
