“You grow up with this sense of always being a little out of place,” says photojournalist Malin Fezehai (@malinfezehai), describing her childhood in an immigrant neighborhood of Stockholm, where she grew up with a Swedish mother, an Eritrean father and an Egyptian stepfather. Now based in Brooklyn, New York, Malin travels around the world, immersing herself in disparate communities, ranging from the war-torn lives of women in Sri Lanka to African refugees in Israel. “You don’t feel like you have one cultural identity and you tend to be able to connect with all kinds of people,” she explains. “That feeling is one of the reasons why I think I gravitate toward displaced communities in my work.
