The Taj Mahal, a magnificent white marble mausoleum built between 1632 and 1653, was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. The mausoleum’s creation was ordered in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died during the birth of their 14th child.
