Sardar, is a title of royalty and nobility that was initially used to denote princes, noblemen, chiefs, kings and other aristocrats in the Persian-speaking world. It has also been used to indicate a chief or leader of a tribe or group. It is used as a Persian synonym of the Arabic title Emir.

The Baloch is an ethnic group that lives mainly in the Balochistan region, encompassing parts of Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan. According to Baloch lore, their ancestors hail from Aleppo, Syria. They claim to be descendants of Ameer Hamza, uncle of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, who settled in Halab. After the fight against the second Umayyad Caliph Yazid I at Karbala, Ameer Hamza's descendants migrated southeast of the central Caspian region, especially toward Sistan, Iran.
