The ruins of Old Ma'rib 📍Yemen 🇾🇪

Ma'rib was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Saba, believed to be the ancient Sheba of biblical fame. Its also the location of the infamous Great Dam of Ma'rib which was built in 8th century BC. The consequent failure of the dam provoked the migration of up to 50,000 Arabs from Yemen to across the Arabian Peninsula and beyond. Most Arabic speaking people can trace their history to the failure of the Marib dam and this migration of their ancestors from their homelands - dispersing them across a region spanning Morocco to Iraq. Chances are if you speak Arabic, it’s because of Ma’rib and it’s dam.
