Like most festivals, rakhi is ever-evolving. Today the festival, once reserved only for brothers and their sisters, is celebrated more widely. Siblings, of course, but friends, and other loved ones often join in. We think of it as a contemporary take on the philosophy 'vasudhaiva kutumbakam,' which loosely translates to 'the world is one family'.
