🌳 To celebrate our fourth birthday, we’re planting 1000 trees for a very special project with @growtrees_global that’s close to our hearts. Rajan, the swimming elephant from Havelock, has been our muse ever since our first days, and this year we’re directing our energy to restore the natural habitat of the elephants in a region that’s suffered a considerable loss of forest cover. 🐘 Why trees for elephants? These mega-herbivores munch on 150kgs of plants every day, all of which offer them not only food but shelter as well. A mix of fruit-bearing trees (mango, guava, lemon, and jamun) will flower beside other trees (sheesham, neem, and bamboo) that’ll specifically help an arboreal habitat thrive. The elephants feed on their favourite plants, and in turn help grow the forest with their dung that aids in dispersing seeds. By planting trees at the Singhbum Elephant Reserve in Jharkhand we're supporting a vibrant natural habitat for these gentle giants (and many other species), helping revive forest cover, and reducing existing man-animal conflict.
