Tumblr is an often-overlooked social media platform and it’s not too hard to see why. Between managing Facebook pages, scheduling tweets on Twitter, re-pinning pictures on Pinterest and encouraging people to hashtag on Instagram, adding another element to the content mix can seem daunting to many marketers and brands.

However, this mindset needs to change because Tumblr can be very useful in improving overall consumer engagement. One huge benefit of the website is its potential for interactivity. Once a person or business has posted a video, other users can re-blog this onto their own site, sharing it with all of their followers and increasing the chance of the video going viral.

Chad Egeland, Digital Marketing Specialist at Social 360, says that the site can be very useful at increasing brand awareness but he does warn that building a following takes time.

“While some brands post 10 or more times per day, others post only once a day. You’ll need to decide what type of content you are comfortable with sharing and how much of it to share.

“As Tumblr is very community driven, you have to make the effort to build an audience by connecting with like minded individuals and other brands by sharing, liking and even re-blogging content.

“One word of advice; be yourself and be authentic.”

According to the Adobe Q4 2013 Social Media Intelligence report, Tumblr is now second only to Facebook when it comes to average potential revenue per visit, with the site seeing a 340% increase in revenue per visit from last year. Referral visits from Tumblr are worth around $1.10, which is above both Pinterest and Twitter ($0.93 and $0.83), and only slightly behind Facebook ($1.22).

Tumblr is also producing view rates to rival Facebook, with over half (56%) of visits referred from Tumblr to sports-related sites resulting in a video view.

For Video Production and Social Media Marketing, email connect@nowcreativegroup.com.
