Did you know...?
The living lettuce you occasionally rescue is grown hydroponically. This is a less conventional 'growing' method that has some pretty amazing upsides:
🥬 It uses 90% less water;
🥗 No herbicides;
🌱 Longer life;
👩🌾 You can regrow it at home after eating its leaves (always a win in our books).
Because it is grown in a more controlled environment, it is consistently 'uniform' - meaning it should always meet supermarkets' strict cosmetic requirements...
So WHY are we rescuing it, then?
Even though the growers do their best to minimise waste at the farm (it's their time and effort at the end of the day!), it often happens that they find themselves with 'too' much lettuce that supermarkets (or food businesses) won't take. Supply and demand do not always match - especially in unprecedented times like these. That's where you come in 📦
