like the rest of the world, ohne hq was rocked and saddened to hear of the depths of britney spears' conservatorship. the news that an IUD will not be removed despite britney's wishes made us all angry, upset and terrified at the world we live in, where reproductive rights are used as a power move to keep women 'in line', and lends itself to a historical conversation surrounding sterilisation of 'hysterical' women.

throughout history, there are hundreds of reports of 'fallen women' who society deemed unacceptable through her sexual desires, preferences, or simply due to the fact they would not confirm to societal norms at the time. many of these women were forced into asylums, sterilised against their will, or forced to undergo aggressive forms of therapy. whilst we look back at these cases as terrifying examples of history, and promise ourselves it will never happen again, britney's sad truth draws so many parallels that seem unbelievable in 2021.

we believe that EVERYONE has the right to their own body, reproductive rights and happiness, and as we continue to blare britney loud and proud, we stand with britney spears and hope society grants her the freedom she deserves. ๐งก๐งก๐งก
