the last 18 epitomised in one word - stress. 😬😬😬 but how does this emotion affect your period? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ the stress hormone is called 'cortisol', and increased levels of cortisol are released when you experience situations of danger or high emotions. this ranges in intensity, for instance it's totally natural to have small spurts of stress throughout the day [if you think you've lost your phone...an unexpected deadline hits you], but prolonged stresses can impact your physical and mental health in a huge way. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ if you have prolonged stresses, this can lead to your ovaries not receiving the signals it needs from your hormonal system to release your egg. this basically scrambles your menstural cycle up, with it not knowing wtf to do - which can lead to you missing a period, or even a longer period. [we know, totally unfair if you're already stressed out.] ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ so...how do you regain control of your cycle if stress has flipped it on its head? it can be tricky, and it's totally normal for your periods to take a few months to get back on track. but we'd recommend: 🧡 tracking your cycle, so you can feel in control of your body, and refer back to the previous month to spot patterns. it's also helpful to have this info on hand in case you need to speak to your GP. 🧡 try to block out even 30-60 minutes a day for no-phone time. use this time to do something you love - whether it's a walk, yoga, watching the oc, masturbating. it's your time. 🧡 use essential oils and cbd to try to regulate your hormones. our yours, hormonally oil is a life saver! 🧡 listen to your body. don't feel pushed to over exercise, or do things that your body is screaming at you not to. try to take it easy and be kind to your mind. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ do you have any stress-busting tips? pop in the comments below! 📸: @fridacashflow
