you’re taught a lot of rules growing up. don’t dress too proactively, don’t be promiscuous, wear makeup but not too much make up, be polite, be accommodating, your body hair is shameful, and, for the love of god, don’t talk about your periods - no one wants to hear about them... your body and the way you adorn it is public property - but the way it works is private - shameful, even. gross. TMI. do you remember the point you started to think, ‘why the hell do i bother?’ breaking these unspoken rules feels f*cking amazing. it’s liberating to take back control of your body, to make your own decisions about how you want to present yourself to the world. to cut your hair in ways your mum tells you boys won’t like, to show as much skin as you feel like and refuse to let anyone sexualise you for it, to loudly n proudly talk about your periods in public and realise you’re actually really into your armpit hair and can’t even remember why you spent so long shaving it all off in the first place… whatever you’re doing with your body, however you choose to talk about your body and present yourself in this world, if you’re doing it for you, you’re doing it RIGHT.
