i found out I had PMDD in 2019 and i still have questions about it.
first thing I learnt is that it stands for premenstrual dysphoria. there are many symptoms linked to PMDD, so to put it simply, it is like an extremely unforgiving version of PMS. we’re talking low moods, suicidal thoughts and difficulty concentrating, to name a few. it’s really f*cking hard.
premenstrual dysphoric disorder (commonly referred to as PMDD) is described as a negative reaction to the hormonal changes taking place during the luteal phase of your cycle, but, you’ve guessed it - doctors still aren’t 100% on the cause of this disorder and the true cause will differ from person to person.
we do know that pmdd is ‘likely’ caused by an imbalance of hormones, but this is not going to be the case for everyone.
if you ever feel out of control on your period, f*ck the world and take a moment for yourself 🧡.
