FINALLY. I write this as I wait for news for a referral for a laparoscopy - currently the most common way to definitively diagnose and treat endometriosis in the UK.

A laparoscopy is keyhole surgery carried out under general aesthetic, where a small telescope (laparoscope) is inserted into the abdomen to look directly at the internal tissue. If endometrial tissue is found, it can be removed during the same procedure.

I won't lie, I am sh*t scared at the thought of it. The prospect of having to go under general aesthetic, the recovery time and the pain. But, it's all that is available to me right now.

When I have spoken to others who have experienced the procedure, most have seen improvements to their symptoms - but there are absolutely no guarantees and some people have to go through multiple laparoscopies throughout their lifetime, as symptoms return.
