OHNE x LAZY OAF PERIOD PANTS: WHY WE RECLAIMED REST
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For too long, mainstream period adverts have encouraged us to “outsmart mother nature” and to ice skate, climb mountains, run a marathon, kayak, cycle or cross-country ski while on our periods. And while you can definitely do all of those things if you are able to, it’s unintentionally taught us to minimise our periods. We’ve been subliminally led to believe that our symptoms are no big deal, and that we should just push through the “inconvenience”. But just because we can, doesn’t mean we should.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As two female-led teams coming together and three of the team members having either PCOS and endometriosis, we felt the need to create period advertising that depicted the opposite - lying on your sofa in your pants. Our collaboration with Lazy Oaf is a reclamation of laziness as pure, blessed rest. This is our manifesto to do...nothing.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We want to abolish the narrative that resting is lazy. Period symptoms look different for everyone, and what’s considered normal for one person can be wildly abnormal for someone else. Whatever your personal experience looks like, rest is essential for taking care of your body, mind and spirit. No questions asked.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We also know that it is not always possible to rest - not everyone has that privilege. But, we do hope it serves as a reminder that self-care is sacred, especially when you are on your period.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Cheers to lazy days ahead. Rest up and as always, bleed easy.
