Dear Instagram,
In the last few months, you have started restricting the reach of our content that portrays people wearing period pants on your platform. As a small female-founded brand dedicated to breaking the stigma around menstruation, we believe it is essential to normalise discussions about periods and show them on human bodies.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We understand the importance of maintaining community guidelines that prevent sharing explicit or inappropriate content. However, we believe that restricting or shadow-banning all our period pant- related content reinforces the stigma around periods and the body.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
By making our posts invisible to users and limiting their reach, Instagram is sending the message that periods are something to be censored and should not be discussed openly. This approach not only undermines the work we and so many others are doing to promote menstrual equity but, in some cases, it can also harm the people who need access to our products and resources the most.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We urge Instagram to reconsider its policies concerning the representation of period-related content, particularly when it comes to showcasing people wearing period pants. We hope you will listen to our concerns and work with us to promote a more positive and inclusive narrative around menstruation.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Team ohne.
