This past Saturday, October 2nd, an offshore pipeline leaked an estimated 144,000 gallons of oil into the ocean, four miles off the coast of Huntington Beach, California. The leaked oil continues to spread and is having a devastating impact on our coastal ecosystem. With a spill this large, the clean-up effort will take time and requires the work of specially trained staff and officials.
The Surfrider Foundation is actively working to ensure that the polluters will be held accountable, that a comprehensive cleanup is completed, and that damages to our ocean and coast are mitigated as much as possible, now and in the future.
