Remember: you don’t get what you don’t ask for. So often our inner narratives tell tales of lack and ignorance—intentional snubs from lovers, parents, friends and bosses meant to offend. But in any relationship, “they should have known,” may be the greatest source of self-inflicted pain (and the most common cause of missed opportunity). Expecting those around us to read our minds is the ultimate lose-lose. When you say what you mean and ask for what you need, only then can anyone hear you.
