“I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own.” .
.
Today was a beautiful experience. Being surrounded by persons of different genders, sexual orientations, races, ages, and faith practices while standing up in unity was one of the most powerful and holy things I have experienced. However, women are angry and have every right to be. For every woman who had the privilege to march today, there was probably 100 women who could not. There are still millions of women systemically oppressed by education, religion, and the law. I do not have an answer on how to make this better. Maybe it is to listen and believe people’s experiences. Maybe it is to meet and love people where they are at. But most importantly, give every woman a space at the table to be frustrated and angry with the shackles given to them by an oppressive system. We are only liberated together and we do not leave any sisters behind.
