June second is the day my mom died, twelve years ago now. I used to be filled with dread and anxiety when this day approached. Now, even as I feel a fullness in my heart and my eyes sometimes overflow a little bit, it’s become a day of celebration. How lucky was I to have a mom who left such a big hole when she moved on from this life? And how lucky am I to have two girls in whom her spirit is so vibrantly, beautifully alive??
