Every kid at the Waldorf School learns to knit socks - it teaches them knitting, math, logic, patience, and patterns. As with everything the in Waldorf system, they teach via multiple neurological pathways, all leading to deep comprehension and a lifelong love of learning. Who knew you could learn so much by knitting socks? (But, my girls will have some seriously warm toes, too.)
