My mom was a flawed person, just like I am. But her love was as clear and uncomplicated as this beautiful crystal hanging from the chandelier in her home. We had to work though conflict occasionally, but even at the core of conflict, we valued mutual kindness and respect. These are the roots of meaningful communication.

Life is extraordinarily complicated, isn’t it? Every person has a truth, and it may not match up with yours. Sometimes this mismatch creates conflict. For dysfunctional communicators (who - remember - are probably waging their own internal battles), it results in a vortex of drama and pain, and that vortex can be surprisingly powerful.
.
Do you know someone who creates this kind of energy? If so, your job is to step gently away from its edges. You don’t need to analyze it, to judge it, or to fix it. You need only recognize it for the risky force that it is and put yourself at a safe distance.
.
For someone like me (maybe you too?), who thrives on open communication and clear intention, it’s VERY hard to let go of the desire to make things better. But, at some point, doesn’t it simply make more sense to focus your attention on the people who understand and appreciate the creature you are, and for whom you can genuinely do the same?
.
That’s what I’m working on, anyway.... Sorry for the deep thoughts on a random Wednesday morning!! Feel free to share your favorite tips for managing these tricky bits of life - I’m all ears!
