Try a Punch Down or a Triangle Fold. These 2 folds have the smaller insertion point and should go in smoothly, keeping the cup as small as a tampon.
Lastly, try different portions when inserting your menstrual cup. I prefer squatting in the shower, which can also make cleaning easier.

Use a panty liner for the first period while trying out a menstrual cup, it does take some time to learn, and you may have some bigger leaks.
