🚨 DOES YOUR CUP LEAK? 🚨 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 9 Reasons Your Cup Might Leak (and how to solve them all) 1. Your cup is positioned incorrectly The vaginal canal isn’t straight up and down; it angles back. So as you insert your cup, make sure you direct it back toward your tailbone instead of straight up. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. Your cup didn’t open fully After your cup is inserted, wiggle it a bit back and forth or up and down to ensure that it opens fully. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3. Your cup is too small (or too big!) If the cup is too small, it won't create a tight seal, allowing blood to leak around the edge of the cup. Less commonly, the cup could be too big, therefore not completely unfolding. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 4. Your cup is too dry (or not dry enough!) A smooth insertion can help your cup open easier. A little water-based lubricant goes a long way! On the other hand, some women find that inserting their cup dry creates a more secure seal. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 5. Not emptying often enough We often hear from women who say their menstrual cup is leaking after only a few hours. Your cup is safe for use for up to 12 hours, but sometimes it will be necessary to empty it more often. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 6. You have strong pelvic floor muscles Strong pelvic floor muscles can squeeze your cup, causing a half-full cup to overflow. Solution? Just change your cup just a little more often on your heavy days! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 7. The air holes are blocked The air holes around the rim of your cup are there to create a good seal, so if these are blocked, you may experience leaks. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 8. Your cervix is tilted If your cervix is tilted or tipped back against the wall of your vagina, this could cause leaks. If you think your cervix isn’t lined up with the center of cup, try reinserting, directing the cup toward your tailbone. It also might help to let your cup sit below your cervix, opening the cup lower in the vagina. If you have a low cervix, we suggest our Pixie Cup Luxe, designed for the low or tilted cervix!
