OFFICERS FROM THE DETENTION CENTER CONTINUE EFFORTS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Officers at Stewart County Sheriff’s Office continue our efforts to work to offer various programs, projects, etc. for inmates that will help them as they re-enter the community. One of the latest projects is aimed for female inmates, to provide a healthier option to women during menstrual cycle. This project was just an idea that Lt. Christy “Scully” Scallion had, with that idea she began BY SENDING AN email TO THE company “PIXIE CUPS”, THAT SHE WAS familiar with TO pitch the idea. The company “Pixie cup” donates to other countries as well as across America.
THE COMPANY RESPONDED WITHIN TWO DAYS WITH AN ANSWER. A TOTAL OF 300 CUPS WERE DONATED TO THE FACILITY FOR THIS PROJECT. THE JAILS ONLY COST WOULD BE SHIPPING OF $51.35. WHEN THE PROJECT WAS PRESENTED TO CAPTAIN SAM MILLS HE IMMEDIATELY WAS ON BOARD. A LARGE NUMBER OF THE POPULATION FACE OBSTACLES IN PURCHASING FEMININE HYGIENE PRODUCTS. THIS PROGRAM IS AIMED AT RELIEF FOR INMATES WHEN RE-ENTERING THE COMMUNITY.
