Today, we’re celebrating 'National Pasta Day!' 🥳 The history of pasta is a rich tapestry that spans thousands of years and several continents. 🌍 In Italy, pasta's history is tied to the Etruscans, an ancient civilization that made a dish resembling pasta called testaroli as early as the 4th century BCE. Some historians also trace pasta-like dishes to ancient Greece and the Middle East, where a dish called itriyya was enjoyed. 📜 By the Middle Ages, pasta had become a staple in Italy. Neapolitans were known as mangiamaccheroni ("macaroni eaters") because pasta was so integral to their diet. The pairing of pasta with tomato sauce, which is iconic today, didn’t emerge until the late 18th century. Pasta's popularity surged globally in the 19th century, especially with the rise of industrial production, making it more accessible. 🍝 Today, Italy remains the heart of pasta culture, producing around 300 different shapes and varieties. This ancient food has travelled through time and across cultures, adapting and evolving to become the beloved global comfort food we enjoy today. So much so, we have a whole day dedicated to celebrating it. #nationalpastaday #returnofthedeli #salvo1968
