Day 14 and the final day of #uniqueyogis ☁️ Another grey day in Dallas; perfect weather for story telling. This is my yoga story. ☁️☁️☁️
☀️ My mother has loved yoga for as long a I can remember. Every now and then when I was young, she would take me to the studio she practiced at. It was dark, full of the mysterious scent of aromatherapy and sonorous peaceful music. My mother practiced for peace and healing. ☀️ I have never been flexible. In school growing up, when all the girls my age were doing splits and high kicks, I was in pain trying to touch my toes. I always had insecurity issues and I didn't consider myself much to look at for a long time.
☀️ After college, I became involved in a gym. I lifted weights and tried various classes, including a yoga class. It was so slow and the pace of the moves left me bored. Where was the fun in holding the same pose for two minutes?? It wasn't until I tried out @Blogilates at the start of 2016 that I began to explore yoga again. Having joined Instagram for various Pilates challenges, I saw all my Instafriends doing yoga. They looked so beautiful and graceful! I had certainly never looked like that in my life, and it gave me the courage to try yoga again. Suddenly every day was a new adventure trying a new pose and finding a spot for the perfect shot. I was trying hand stands, working on the splits and doing the dancers pose at work between calls. ☀️ I would like to say that my practice is about peace and discovering the self. But, if I'm honest, (is there any other way to be??) it's about how it makes me feel. I love the way I feel doing yoga. I feel beautiful! Even in the poses where my tummy bulges over my activewear waistband! I feel like a ballerina, or a fanciful unicorn ? I love the confidence it gives me and how strong I feel when I do a handstand. In short, it makes me feel ✨unique✨ and individual. ? Thank you for a wonderful challenge and making me think of how unique I am. ? Hosts:
