Learn how to process your emotions. So many of us never learn how to process or identify our emotions and this makes it difficult for us to take care of ourselves. One of the best things you can do for your mental health is to learn how to identify how you feel and then you can take action to take care of yourself. 2. Prioritize Sleep Getting enough sleep is one of the best things that we can do for our mental and physical wellbeing. Quality sleep positively impacts our mood, reduces anxiety and improves our ability to handle stress. 3. Reduce Screen Time Yes, reducing screen time at night can help you sleep which is an added bonus, but with more of us than ever constantly on our screens, spending quality time with loved ones or doing things we love without screens has huge benefits for our mental health. It can increase mindfulness and reduce distractions. If you struggle with this, see if you can practice watching TV without looking at your phone as a start. 4. Limit your alcohol intake We all know we should drink less, but one of the best reasons to reduce your alcohol intake is the wellness benefits. Not only is alcohol linked to several different kinds of cancer, it negatively impacts sleep and is known to exacerbate anxiety. Try switching out one of your regular drinks with an alcohol-free beverage and see how you feel! 5. Practice self-compassion Contrary to popular belief, self-compassion does not mean letting yourself off the hook. You can treat yourself kindly and validate yourself, while also still holding yourself accountable and having goals. You cannot shame yourself into real change.
