The Art Of Indigo Denim —
At Neuw we have always, and will always love indigo denim. It expresses timelessness and youthfulness at the same time. Many of our favourite jeans are born from Premium Indigo washes. But what makes “indigo” so special?
The term ‘Blue Jeans’ has almost become commonplace. Denim is synonymous with the colour blue, and while it may come as a given, there is actually an interesting reason the majority of jeans are dyed blue.
The colour is actually achieved from an age-old artisan pigment dying method dating back 6000 years. A process called Indigo Dying. Today, indigo is the ‘colour of choice’ for denim due to its intense vibrance, but also because of the very unique way it merges and bonds to the fabric.
Unlike most natural dyes, when applied, Indigo only fixes to the exterior or outside of the yarn meaning that with each wash and wear, the garment becomes softer, more worn-in, and slowly begins to show it’s true un-dyed core. This gives your jeans a completely individual look and feel exposing those unique marks and character based on how you personally wear them.
