The beginning of the belated and much-awaited NAIDOC week is here!
This annual week of recognition celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
NAIDOC 2020’s theme, “Always Was, Always Will Be”, invites us all to embrace the history of this country and pay our respects to the oldest continuing cultures on the planet: the First Nations.
Through intimate knowledge of country and a deep commitment to nurturing their communities, they turned the harshest habitable continent into the rich land that we know as “home” today.
The global context makes NAIDOC’s message all the more powerful.
As we navigate these challenging times, we would do well to learn from the ancient, enduring elements of the Aboriginal First Nations culture. They teach us a valuable lesson of survival and growth: true resilience is fueled by the power of community and great respect for the land.
