🌳💫Introducing Australia’s Native Prima Donna: The Finger Lime Tree 💫 🌳
The Finger Lime tree (Citrus Australasia) is an Australian citrus species native to the rain forests of Southeast Queensland and Northern New South Wales. Recently, the native bush food has gained international recognition as a culinary icon, especially in Germany and France, where it’s referred to as the “caviar de citron”.
The finger limes come in an explosion of colours, varying from red, orange, green, yellow, and pink. The flavours, textures and even the nutritional property of the finger lime differ depending on the fruits colour.
The finger lime tree is known to be a little high maintenance… even Martha Stewart wouldn’t know best. Luckily for you, at Roogenic we’ve decided to share with you our secrets for growing this tricky native plant.
✨Ensure the tree is protected from small birds and fast winds, as the sharp thorns can rupture and spoil the limes.
✨The tree is fertilized every six months and is conditioned regularly with emulsifiers such as seaweed or worm castings.
✨The soil is kept moist during the summertime and mulch is added during the springtime, it is important to make sure that the soil is well drained.
✨Regularly check the PH of the soil to ensure it stays within 6 and 7.
