My commitment to traditional modesty was put to the test during my recent pregnancy. With some potentially serious varicosities appearing for the first time around week 15 came mandatory medical grade compression leggings. If you have been there, you know. If you haven’t, it’s hard to imagine how challenging it is to keep these tights on from the moment you wake up until bedtime, especially in the Texas summer heat. Add in trying to look “normal” in skirts and dresses in the summer with black leggings on full time...my Modesty on Mondays posts literally would have been “how to wear six different maternity outfits while covering black compression tights” on repeat. Modesty, I was reminded, is not always easy, not always about cute clothes and feeling feminine. Sometimes it’s just a wearying daily sacrifice. Moreover, I knew sharing about the challenge of the varicose veins would have been an occasion of complaining for me, and at minimum a vain, Cross-rejecting seeking of consolation. Soooo I put #modestyonmondays on pause, but y’all did not! In the last few months, I have still had so many questions about our skirt-wearing ways. I’ve had many of you open up personal conversations and ask questions, and have watched many of you decide to forgo pants! 👖—>💃🏼 For each of you that has reached out and messaged me, there are surely a handful that may be wondering or may have questions to ask! As I dive back into #modestyonmondays and the awesome conversations we’ve had here in this space around traditional Catholic clothing standards, I’d love to know what your questions are! Leave them here in the comments and I’ll include the answers in future Monday posts! For today’s modesty chat - If traditional modesty is part of your life already, how has your commitment to modesty been put to the test? If you’re curious about or feeling called to dress more modestly, what are the aspects that make you feel like the commitment would be a challenge? My dress: roolee nursing dress!
