I would be a liar if I said these last few weeks weren’t hard. They have been. Finding a rhythm with all of us at home has been difficult. How many Zoom meetings can my daughter pop in on? Is she watching too much tv? Where did my precious almost three year old learn the f word, and why does she keep saying it? Why do I still think it’s really funny? Will anyone really believe me if I say she really thinks it’s a made up silly word? Why was surviving a pandemic not in any of the parenting books? Why do I get in a daily fight about the difference between long sleeves and short sleeves? Seriously, why does she not believe me? Why can I suddenly not sit still long enough to read? Is my husband mad at me for making him continuously move furniture around? Is he tired of cooking dinner, because I gave up doing that three weeks ago? These questions are petty, and funny and I know that. But gosh if I don’t see some humor in this mess I’ll stay in bed forever.
Today though we celebrate Easter. We donned our marching Easter dresses that I bought us in January. Because I plan things. I’m forcing Lyla to take pictures because that is what I do. No we won’t go to a Sunday service in person, but we will Zoom with our home group. We won’t have a big family meal, but we will eat. This won’t be the traditional Easter, but it feels more real than it ever has. Because even though the world is bleak around us, that tomb is still empty. Jesus “waked up.” He saved us. And I can celebrate that every single day world ending or not. I pray this day finds you well. I pray you see some light today. I pray you feel loved not just today, but many days. There is a mighty God looking out for us. He’s listening. He is present.
