Last month marked one year since we moved to Idaho. I didn’t know know what to expect moving to a place I had never been before. To be quite honest I was fearful of moving from everything I’ve ever known as a first time mother + less than a year into marriage. With being so distant from our community of friends + family brought a lot of stubborn and sadness in our first several months.
I remember telling Mason at one point that although moving wasn’t on the top of my list (more like the absolute bottom), I know there’s something Idaho has to offer us that our home of No. Dak. can’t for our marriage and our family. A community that we can serve or a community that has something to offer us - whatever that may be.
I prayed and prayed for community, I longed for it so deeply. Then I began to see this community unfold little by little, a community of faithful and truly beautiful people we’ve gotten to befriend to our family, who support Mason + my marriage for the very thing marriage is seen as in the Church, who love our boys and accept us how we are. To see the Lord’s faithfulness and timing be brought to life right in front of us. Through that I realized on a deeper level that community isn’t about quantity it’s about quality of the people we surround ourselves with and allow into our lives, we allow into our family really. People who not only desire your sainthood but will run towards it with you.
A lot has changed in a year, I still miss and can’t wait to move back to North Dakota next summer but the Lord has given us so much (much more than we’re deserving of at times) here in Idaho. Where honestly the only thing I knew about Idaho what that it’s famous for potatoes but to my surprised has become a little piece of home for us, even though it’ll be two years of living here and our boys won’t remember this place. It’s still a little slice of home I thought it could never be.
