New around here? Allow us to introduce ourselves, and our purpose. SAMARA is an all-female team based in Canada. Our founder Salima and her sister Samara grew up in Kenya. In Kenya they saw that children in the village beside where they grew up didn't have access to electricity to do their homework at night. Salima created a backpack with a solar panel on it so children could charge their backpack on the way to school and do their homework at night without the use of kerosene. Since its inception, The Soular Backpack has provided clean, safe light to children in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Botswana. Samara is currently building a school in Kenya to enable more children to attend school and have access to higher education. In 2017 Salima wanted to find a way to sustainably support Soular, so she founded SAMARA, named after her sister, who joined her on this journey. Every SAMARA purchase contributes towards providing children in East Africa with solar powered backpacks. We've made bags out of apple waste, sunglasses out of castor seeds, and backpacks out of plastic that was once in the ocean. We're trying to better the fashion industry whilst searching for the best in sustainability throughout the supply chain, to provide better products for you, and the world. Thank you for being on this journey with us. We can't wait to share all that's to come!
