Marine Life Monday with our partners @loggerheadmarinelifecenter π’π
βOn September 30, our researchers documented a nest laid on Juno Beach. Since Loggerheads rarely nest on our local South Florida beaches so late in the season, our researchers placed a temperature data logger in the nest to learn more about its temperatures. This particular nest is expected to hatch in late November. Once the nest hatches, we will excavate and collect a few sample egg shells. From there, we will submit for genetic testing to discover if the nesting turtle might have been a hawksbill-loggerhead hybrid or purely a hawksbill! We have a total of 13,058 loggerhead nests, the third highest year on record!β Check them out to learn more! @loggerheadmarinelifecenter π’π’#sandcloud #savethefishies
