I have no more tears. I watched as the Kentucky attorney general attempted to explain why Breonna’s killers would evade justice yet again and I couldn’t cry anymore. It’s all too familiar. Our black mothers, daughters, granddaughters, sisters, cousins, wives, and friends are tired. We are tired of the world telling us through their verdicts and passivity that our lives aren’t worth as much as the next. That the scales of justice don’t tip in favor of certain hues. If this year has not supplied enough injustice to change a person’s heart, it’s not going to. There’s no last minute plea that anyone could offer, no words that would be convincing enough. I can only control my reactions and what energy I emit into the world. I can only control what I do, and I will vote because my ancestors fought for that right. Disappointment has never had the power to drown women, and especially black women. In what feels like a tsunami of devastation we will continue to float, just as we always have. It’s called black girl magic and we have to hold on tight to it. - - @chel.bythe.sea⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
