The Fade ~ oftentimes, the way we paddle in to a wave will determine the line we take, either offering different sections to become available based on the board youre riding and the maneuvers or line you are looking to take.
A ‘fade’ as Lola does here when she is paddling into the wave and taking off, means if the wave is a right (like this wave Lola is on), she enters the wave angling almost to the left to begin with- this helps her set up this noseride perfectly. If she had paddled straight into the wave, or even angled her takeoff( more to the right) she would have missed the noseride section because she would have been too far out on the face. The ‘fade’ acts like a little swing into the wave, like doing a hard turn but midfaced on the wave as you’re standing up. Watch Lola work her magic here, and notice her timing of where she places the board on the wave for the noseride- you’ll see the fade setup is an integral part of her timing and speed set up.
