#seeatiptimetuesday 💃🌊 The Dancefloor ~ a goal for riding a longboard is for it to begin to feel like a dance floor, as @karinarozunko beautifully displays here. There’s a number of different attributes to developing this feeling. First, having a board that fits your size, with the right fin, plays a big role in having the right stability on a board. While this may seem simple, finding the right combo of board, fin, and fin placement can be wild, as there’s so many variables! Karina is about 5’4” and rides around a 9’4-9’6 , most of the lady loggers I know ride a fin that’s about 9.75” (seems many prefer the greenough shape). I like to use my hand in a Shaka 🤙📏 position to measure the distance from the tail to the back of the fin as a starting point and then try out different places from there. You’ll be amazed what switching up fin placement or fin design will do for the feel of the board!! Ideally you want the board to be maneuverable and not too stiff, but still with enough hold to let you have control when you’re up at the nose. Second, moving amongst a board can truly be like dancing on the floor- we utilize gravity to our advantage- allowing our body weight to fall into the ground through our feet. On a board, our dancefloor medium is constantly moving, but we can gain control of its movement by the pressure and weight we put into it through our feet. Notice how quickly Karina is able to move back to the middle of the board (backwards) from hanging heels~ she’s sweeping the board under her feet so she covers more distance on the board than if she were simply just walking on the board —- most importantly, push through your feet to move the board- cross walking would be more easily translated to cross-sweeping, because the movement is more of a sweep than a walk!
