Super Fade~
On small waves especially, staying in the steepest part of the wave is important to give the most opportunity for maneuvers and speed.
Down at the @mexilogfest last week, finalist @rosiejaffurs set up this wave very methodically. She noticed as she was catching the wave, that the energy was shifting further inside towards the beach, so she FADED to the left (viewers right) to put her behind the peak and maximize her time in the steepest part of the wave. If she had just paddled straight into the wave, she would have likely been too far in front of the steep part of the wave and therefore missed the noseride section. But as one of the very best loggers in the world, Rosie identified the wave shape as soon as she started paddling.
Learning to surf (which is a lifelong practice for even the best surfers in the world) is so much about learning the ocean and all of the intricate ways it moves.
