#SeeaTipTimeTuesday Eva's Back Side Break To Gas Pedal Eva sets herself up for the journey to the nose after a nice faded backside turn. Note how her feet start to hug the heel rail of the board (closest to the wave), further slowing her down and setting the ideal angle for the journey towards the nose. With the bulk of her board out the back of the wave, she moves forward towards the gas pedal, a cheater five. This move generates momentum down the wave's face, which will cause you to outrace the pocket or energy source of the wave itself. At 10 seconds, you find her repeating the setup, this time with a soft cutback, as the wave rebuilds for a final (slightly longer) section. With years of practice under her toes, she quickly steps to the gas pedal at the nose with one last chance to play. When the section is too long, she quickly moves back for control to gracefully turn out of the wave and not lose the board. The Takeaway: Practice small variations and muscle memory first, and do not paddle out leashless in a crowded lineup or try advanced maneuvers without extensively practicing and pulling these combinations first. Cut backs and foot placement towards the back of the board = your breaks. Foot placement towards the front of the board, and nose riding = your gas.
